Château Vignelaure fête ses 40 ans
Dans les collines au dessus d’Aix en Provence, en altitude a plus de
400 metres, se trouve ce magnifique domaine, crée en fin des années 1960
par Georges Brunet, qui a construit sa vigne a partir des greffons de
cabernet sauvignon venu de Bordeaux, de son 3eme cru classé La Lagune.
Le premier vin était produit en 1970, du cabernet sauvignon complété par
le syrah, vieilli en barriques. Vignelaure produit 60% vins rouges, et
40% vins rosés, à l’inverse de la tendance en Provence, majoritairement
pour le rosé.
Dans ce paysage sauvage, les températures sont bien inférieures a ceux
des plaines plus au sud, avec des hivers rudes, et les étés chauds et
secs. Le Grand Vin est issu d’une sélection du meilleur cabernet
sauvignon (70%), 25% syrah et 5% grenache, vieilli en barrique pour 12 à
18 mois, et ensuite en bouteille. Les rendements sont petits (20
hectolitres per hectare en 2009). Le plus récente millésime sur le
marché est le 2005.
Pour fêter ses 40 ans, les nouveaux propriétaires ont invités quelques
cavistes et restaurateurs pour une dégustation au domaine.
2005 Château Vignelaure
Arômes de menthe, cèdre, et cassis. Beaucoup de concentration en
bouche, avec la fraîcheur et jeunesse du cabernet, et la complexité et
finesse du syrah. Les tanins sont très fins, ronds, et bien fondu. Un
grand vin de garde, à boire a partir de 2015. 18.5
2003 Château Vignelaure
Plus renfermé au nez, notes de cassis, garrigue. Style plus solide,
mais bien équilibré. (Un petit rendement pour ce millésime, vers 18 h/h)
Riche en fruits, moins de fraîcheur, moins de nervosité. A boire ou à
garder, ce sera très bien avec des gibiers, viande rouge. 14.5
1999 Château Vignelaure
Plus évolué au nez, notes de cèdre, réglisse, sous-bois. Complexe,
ronde, et très fin en bouche, très long, bien équilibré, avec une
fraîcheur remarquable, beaucoup de classe. A boire maintenant, ou à
garder, le vin commence juste à montrer ses qualités. 2010 – 2016 +.

1997 Château Vignelaure
Nez complexe, bien évolué, notes de sous bois, genévrier, résine et
cèdre. Un peu plus sec en bouche que le 1999, avec une belle fraîcheur,
tanins bien fondus, notes de menthe, sous bois, cèdre. Complexe, long,
évolue bien dans le verre. A boire maintenant, pourrait se garder plus
longtemps. 2010 – 2013+ 16.5
1981 Château Vignelaure
Reflets tuilés. Nez complexe de sous bois, résine, truffe, bois ciré,
tabac, café torréfié. Belle complexité en bouche, menthe, mocha, truffe,
exubérant et toujours avec une fraîcheur extraordinaire. Vif et
expressif, très fin, bien évolué. Toujours plein de vie, a boire
maintenant, sans se presser. 18.5

Deep gold with bronze reflections.
Peachy buttery apricot jam aromas. Rich apricot fruit with clean balancing
acidity. Botrytis character, honeyed marmalade and muscatel raisins, bacon
and apricot, clean, with good length. Drinking now, will develop over 10
years and more. Apricot tart, peche de vigne,
foie gras. 18.5
2008 Gewurztraminer Grand Cru Kaefferkopf, Domaine
Schoech
Aromas of rose petals, lychees and ripe limes. Medium
sweet, with balanced freshness, gentle rosewater fruit, a soft hint of
sweetness, and good length of flavour. Very classic style, with an
attractive youthful exuberance, and good potential for medium term ageing.
Foie gras, munster cheese, or on its own.

Floral honeyed elegant aromas, aromatic, with hints of bitter orange
marmalade. Medium sweet, with fine balance and good length, and good
botrytis character. Starting to drink well now.

Full gold colour. Honeyed mellow wet wool nose, with a hint of mushroom
ageing. Evolved honeyed fruit with good balancing acidity, medium dry,
quite rustic style, drinking well now. 16

Poniatowski
Light gold colour. Honeyed wet wool and flower aromas, dried apricot and
orange. Nutty fruit on palate, with good balancing acidity, firm backbone
and good length. Medium sweet. Attractive now, but with excellent keeping
potential. 17
2007 Sancerre Rouge “Vincengetorix”, Vincent Gaudry
Medium ruby colour. Soft raspberry fruit aromas, chalky and elegant,
youthful. Delicious pure mineral fruit flavours with good intensity and
length. Can be served lightly chilled, excellent with poultry, white
meats, cheeses. 17
2007 Sancerre Rouge “Le Sang des Serfs” Vincent Gaudry
Medium ruby colour. Elegant smoky raspberry aromas, still very
undeveloped. Ripe voluptuous red fruit flavours with firm balancing
tannins and plenty of grip. Very fine mineral flavours and great
complexity. Keep for at least four to five years, to appreciate the full
promise of this outstanding wine. 17.5
1989 Chinon, Clos de la Dioterie, Charles Joguet
Deep opaque garnet ruby. Flinty mineral
redcurrant fruit aromas, black currant leaf and iron filings. Ripe minty
fruit on palate, mellow, with firm ripe tannins, elegant dry savoury
fruit, fine and understated. Well evolved but with no sign of ageing.

2002 Château Montus La Tyre
Deep opaque ruby. Deep spicy licorice, star anis and smoke aromas. Heady
ripe damson fruit, intense licorice, leather and cloves, mineral, with
firm ripe tannins. Broad spicy black pepper fruit with good concentration
and toasty finish. Still quite closed, improves with carafing. Keep 2 – 5
years. Game, red meats, hard cheeses. 17+
Languedoc
1999 Mas Haut Buis Costa Caoude, Coteaux du Languedoc
Deep ruby colour. Plum, damson and sour cherry
aromas, with hints of chocolate and tar. Broad spicy fruit, sour cherry
and chocolate, with firm tannins, firm vibrant acidity, good backbone and
length. Structured, still lively, and at its peak, will keep further.

Deep opaque ruby. Ripe prune and tobacco spice
aromas, damson and black pepper. Broad peppery licorice and black pepper,
damsons, ripe supple tannins with well integrated oak. Firm backbone, good
length, fresh and mineral. Improves in the glass.

Deep ruby colour. Mintly licorice and black
pepper aromas, tar and patent leather. Sweet ripe plum fruit, coffee
mocha, with supple tannins. Drinking well now. 16

Château Vignelaure celebrates 40
years of wine production
In the mountains above Aix en Provence, at an altitude of over 400
metres, you will find this magnificent domaine, created in 1960 by
Georges Brunet, formerly owner of Chateau La Lagune, who planted
cabernet cuttings here, brought from Bordeaux. The first vintage was
1970, from cabernet and syrah, aged in barriques. Vignelaure is unusual,
in that 60% of their production is red, and only 40% rosé, whilst rosé
generally forms 80 to 90% of Provence wine production.
In this savagely beautiful countryside, temperatures are several degrees
cooler than on the plains nearer the Mediterranean, and the wines
benefit from a cooler climate. The top wine is from a selection of the
best cabernet sauvignon (70%), 25% syrah and 5% grenache, aged in
barrique for 12 to 18 months, then aged in bottle at the Chateau for a
couple of years before release. Yields are tiny (20 hectolitres per
hectare in 2009). The latest release is the 2005.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary, the new Scandinavian owners invited a
few lucky retailers and restaurant owners for a tasting at the domaine.
2005 Château Vignelaure
Attractive minty aromas, ripe and spicy. Ripe minty fruit on the palate,
ripe tannins, elegant and fresh, still youthful. Touch of cedar, pencil
box, with fine tannins. Keep for at least 5 years. 18.5
2003 Château Vignelaure
More closed in at first, with ripe spicy garrigue aromas. Firm fruit on
the palate, a more solid style, broader with less finesse and freshness,
with ripe tannins, and good balance. Less of the classic “Vignelaure”
style, but well made, starting to drink well now. 14.5
1999 Château Vignelaure
Garnet tones. Elegant evolved classy cedar aromas, spicy and complex.
Well integrated oak on palate, spicy ripe cedar flavours, fine tannins,
fresh acidity, starting to evolve well, elegant and complex. Very long
and well balanced. Delicious now, but will keep for at least another
five to ten years. 18
1997 Château Vignelaure
Garnet tones. Complex aromas of leaf mould, juniper and cedar wood. Well
evolved complex fruit flavours, fresh and lively, with minty cabernet
and firm ripe tannins. A little drier in style than the 1999, evolves
well in glass. Drinking well now, no sign of fading, could keep for
another five years plus. 16.5
1981 Château Vignelaure
Garnet tones. Evolved sweet cedar truffle sandalwood aromas with lots of
complexity. Perfumed ripe fruit flavours, polished wood, tobacco and
mocha. Long complex minty fruit with freshness and good structure, still
very lively. Drinking very well now. Fully evolved but still with plenty
of life. Classy. 18.5
